Mixed Media Monthly: Boxing Clever

In Fact anything box related is the theme at Mixed Media monthly this Month, where I am lucky enough to be the guest designer for the month. The theme incorporates anything to do with boxes - altered, made, shadow..anything You can draw a box on your piece or make a card with a gift box stamp - as always, the challenges are open to your own interpretation. So please join in this month, get out of your box and have fun lol.
Here is my example, its just a plain little wooden box, that I have used acrylic paint washes on and layered up the colours with a mask, then some copper foiling finishing off with a gorgeous dragonfly and some cogs and game spinner.
This is now for sale in my Folksy shop.

Alter It monthly: Domino Domination

November is Domino Domination... Altered Dominoes, or use dominoes as a theme in your art. Not got a domino? remember the childrens game "picture dominoes"? maybe you could use images to make your own arty picture domino...

Crafty Individuals has handed in A lovely selection of rubber stamps and miniature themed Paper albums for us to post to this months lucky winner. The winner will be the piece that Crafty individuals choose as their favourite.

These are my Design team examples for this month for Alter It monthly. Two Dominos stamped, drilled and turned into pendents. Both of these are now listed in my Folksy Shop. A link to the shop is in the right hand panel.

Doll Project: Ongoing for the Altered element.

I was browsing the shop site and I came across the fabric section. As soon as I saw the Calico I wanted to do a doll. So I sat down and did a basic doll pattern, then I Inked and stamped my fabric prior to cutting it, with Distress ink then stamped my images in Archival ink. I then cut, and stitched it together. The little steam punk Heart is based on one of the larger hearts in this rusty metal shape set with odd cogs a game spinner and some beadazzels added. The little key is embedded in the side of the doll to try and give a clockwork effect.
I will be completing this at a later stage and I will blog it further then.
If anyone has any questions about this at all please email me.

2nd DT piece for The altered Element

In this necklace the fairy had got naughty and started to collect the souls of the children that she granted the wishes for. So the fairy king trapped her in a frame, tore her spell in half and trapped it with her so it could never be used to free her. Her winding mechanism was also smashed and trapped with her too.

I again used one of the Memory Frames that I was sent this month. This time I collaged a small scene in it and filled it with Clear UTEE. you have to be careful not to overheat the clear to much or else it will start to yellow. I used various watch parts. The rose is one of those tiny paper roses that I have spritzed with Cosmic shimmer and then used rusting powder on it before dipping it it UTEE. when dry some distress stickles were applied. The chain is Tim Holtz ball chain .
The buttons were just from my own stash.

Simon says stamp challenge

The challenge this week is metal. This fits the bill perfectly, it's metal wings, with a small working digtial watch and a Tim Holtz book plate. All aged up with acrylic paint. This is now listed in my Folksy shop.

Fairy Steampunk necklace : Designed for "The Altered Element"

My First design Team Piece for The Altered Element. Its a little necklace with magical qualities. When the hand is turned to the number 12 the fairy can fly free and grant you a magical wish..unfortunatly due to over use its now broken and the hand is now permatantly set at the number 2. I think some little girl must have got to over entusiastic wish her wishes.
The Memory Frame was placed over a rubber stamp and then filled with UTEE using a melt pot. I then rubbed a small amount of treasure wax onto it to give it a slightly aged look.

It was then embelished with various cogs and wheels and a small hole drilled in the side to add a key (The cogs and wheels are from my personal stash but very similer ones are available here) The fairy is Vintaj and a Tim Holtz Spinner is used on the clock face. The leaf, dragonlfy and the twiddly bit at the bottom are my own and I coloured them with a very thin coating of Viva Decor Crackle in Bronze to tone them into the piece as they were A bright siver colour.

The chain is made with copper wire and the beads are from my personal stash But a good selection are available here
This is the first time I have tried this type of bead and wire work and I know its not fantstic, but I think its something I will improve with. I do think a proper pair of round nosed pliers would have helped. I only had flat nosed ones and it was quite hard to coil the wire with these.

Studio L3 Tim holtz fragment challenge

I came across this blog ages ago and I have been meaning to enter into its challenges for a while now and this week I have eventually done it.
Its a pretty basic necklace really. The only thing I have done on it that is a bit different is that I drilled through a round fragment to attach a spin wheel with a brad and also to attach it at the top as I did not want A shaped fragment as the main piece. All the images are stamped from various TH plates.

Nicho Necklace

My very good friend Zuzu is the guest designer on Mixed Media Monday monthly this month. Her chosen theme is Shrines. This started out as a little nicho type shrine thing, all empty and naked. I decided to make a necklace out of it so I Utted it up, drilled into the side to add an old pocket watch winder and then added cogs and wheels and springs to it. I have given a before and after photo.
