Slide:Alter it Monthly

For Alter It monthly this month is a winter or Christmas theme as it's winter here in the UK, but rather than insist on a winter or Christmas theme we are giving you the choice of 2 ways to go with the theme "Slide"...
It could be snow and ice, winter, Christmas.. or
it could be a slide-mailer on any theme.. It could even be a winter slide-mailer if you like...
you choose. As always it is your interpretation we are looking forward to seeing.
Crafty Individuals has handed in A lovely selection of rubber stamps and miniature themed Paper albums for us to post to this months lucky winner. The winner will be the piece that Crafty individuals choose as their favourite.

I have actually not made a slide mailer. But its a glass slide that goes into the slide mailer, simple reason is I couldn't find my actual slide mailers. I suspect they are under the pile of stuff that has temporarily gone to live in the loft room but as it like Siberia up there at the moment I am not going to hunt them out.
My example had been alcohol inked on one side and them embossed on the other with silver snow flakes. Then UTEED around the 4 edges before some filigree corners were bent into position on the top and bottom. A chain has been added for hanging and the chain at the bottom holds a silver snowflake.
This is now listed for sale in my Folksy Shop

Recycled Theme: Altered Bird Book

This is my 2nd DT piece for the Altered Element this month.
In it's previous life this used to be a bird book...well it still is but now its an altered one.
I hollowed out a large recess in the book, then I held all the pages together so I could PVA them together around the outside edges to hold them in place. The little recess holds a birds nest, eggs and odd feathers and bits and pieces that you may find in a birds nest.

I also cut a recess for the draw, which is made from a small box, lined with some of the removed paper before being painted with some watered down ink from a distress reinker bottle. The draw holds a small decoration made from 2 glass microscope slides with a small collaged image held between them and then sealed together with "faux solder" made from UTEE in a melt pot.

The cover also has a small recess in it which holds a bird image. The whole book has been painted with the same distress ink and the cover has then been given a coat of gold acrylic paint before a layer of croco crackling colour in bronze has been added.

Items used were:
Artchix collage sheet
Croco Crackling Colour
UTEE
Distress Ink

Recycled Theme: Alice In Wonderland

This is a Design Team Piece for The Altered Element. I have had an Alice in Wonderland book on my craft supplies shelf for ages a Friend brought it for me for 50p as they know how much I like to use text on my work.
So I have altered a wooden box using the text for the background, the flowers and the images used are from the book having been cut out and coloured in a vintage fashion. The box was crackled with 2 layers of Eco Acrylic, then the text and pictured were added before some gold leafing was applied in a shabby chic fashion to the box.

The Flowers are made from grunge paper covered in text before cutting our, then colouring with Ranger Color wash, cosmic shimmer, stickles, then some Efco ice glitter added for extra sparkle.
The book plate is a Tim Holtz One that has been coloured with a slight rub of wax.
Items Used:
Efoc Arylic,Grunge paper, Ranger Color Wash, Cosmic shimmer, Efoc Ice Glitter, Bookplate.
