Altered Box: New Craft Individuals Rubber Stamps

When the new stamp plates from crafty Individuals dropped through my letter box two of them especially got me very excited, they are the two I have used to alter this small wooden box. The plates I used were C1-294 and C1-295. The big ship made me think of pirates and that really was the basis for the colouring of this box and the little cogs on the other plate just screamed steampunk.

I firstly painted the box with a coat of Lumiere paint in metallic rust.(I do love this colour). I then mounted the 5 small cogs onto an acrylic block and stamped them around the sides of the box in stazon twisting the block to rotate the lay of the stamps so it looked more random. The main image was stamped onto tissue paper and then added to the lid.

I then added some copper leafing to the box and some german scrap round the lid edges. I sprinkled some copper and gold UTEE on a piece of card and stamped the compass image, then tearing around the edges when the UTEE was cold. I stuck this on with PVA. I then applied a bronze and old gold acrylic paint thickly in places on the box, sprinkled it with copper UTEE and then heated it up with a heat gun until the paint bubbled and burst a bit (being careful not to melt the compass image), while it was still warm I sprinkled on beads and an assortment of beaddazzels. When it was all dry and set solid I added a few colours of Inca Gold Wax before buffing it up.
Then a few Tim Holtz cogs were added to the front. This will be available for sale in my Folksy shop.
