Back to Black at That's Crafty

Back to Black is the theme on the That's Crafty Challenge Blog this week.
I have a journal page to share.

My project started with a piece of black gessoed card that I had used for mopping up stencils from my Gelli Plate, this gave me a lovely muted background of colours which I cut to size, to fit in my 5 x 7 journal.

I added more detail with a lovely Kim Dellow Stencil from Paperartsy

I then added colour to the stenciled area by keeping the Big stencil in place and layered others over it to add color through. I used a selection of from the Dinky range by That's Crafty for this.

I then replaced the big stencil and used it as a template to add white highlights with a pen to the stenciled area.

I am now horribly stuck as to what to do next, so I am going away to think.......

Two day's later and I am back with my finished page.

I found a lovely collage image and title from a music sheet in my bit box which gave me an idea for a theme.

I stamped the book  ring from the That's crafty Textures stamp set 2 onto text paper and added this to the top right of the page, added some drippy images using the same stamp set and Art Alchemy metallique gold rush paint to stamp with. Over this I used DecoArt crackle glaze mixed with  Dioxazine Purple pushed through the dinky stencil 081.

I used my finger to rub paint over this when dry to highlight the crackle.

I added a bit of black stencilling and stitching and a couple of random bits that I found in my collage box. Finishing it all by rubbing on odd colours of Distress crayons here and there just to give it a bit more of a moody look.

I must admit this was one of those projects that I really did  not like at one stage and it nearly went in the bit torn in half in a huff. But I am glad I persevered with it as I now really like the way it all came together.

Out Numbered at That's crafty

A new challenge started last Friday at That's Crafty.
Life has just got away from me at the moment so I am a little bit late with my blog post for this.

My journal page is a play on the nursery Rhyme "2 Little Dickie Birds" here they are sitting on their stenciled walls looking very  happy with no intention of flying away.

I used the lovely bird set by Katzelkraft on my page and a selection of That's Crafty Stencils.

Details of the challenge can be seen HERE on the That's Crafty Challenge Blog.

It's only Words

It's that Friday feeling, I do love Friday's, the weekend to look forward to and a couple of days of lie-ins and of course the That's Crafty  challenge

This time the theme for the Challenge is "just words" (Words to be the main focus of project)

I have a journal page.

I played with Decoart media paints using Fresco Satin finish to make them all very translucent so all the text showed through all the layers of paint and there are lot of layers here, added with stencils and just general slopping around of paint.

Finishing with my favourite filler stamp of the moment Tracey Scott's colour wheel stamp from the PA set ETS02.

My main image is from Fly with Me from Rubber Dance along with the quote, and the Dream word is one of the That's Crafty Stencils bumped a little bit with white pen.

I finished with a little gelli plate printed heart that I layered up with some stamped text,  stitched it together and stuck down in the bottom left of the page.

I am entering this into the Rubber Dance challenge.

Round and Round In Circles

Woo Hoo a new challenge is over on the That's Crafty blog today.

I have used the circle from the Acrylic Shapes to make my mobile for the challenge inter-spacing them with re-claimed glass from an old chandelier before hanging from a circular support.

This does look very pretty hung in a window with the sun hitting it.

I do have a video showing how I did the different elements on the Acrylic shapes on my youTube channel.

Full details of the challenge can be seen on the challenge blog and there is a £20 gift voucher to be won.

I also have links in my left hand blog bar for some upcoming classes I have if you are interested.

Flower Power

The latest challenge over on the That's Crafty blog is "Flower Power"

I made this box using a selection of stamps from the Sheena Douglas Day of the Dead range.

I gave the box several coats of white acrylic before I stamped onto it, sanding between each coat to make sure it was super smooth to stamp onto.

I stamped all my images in versaFine ink as I find this gives the most detail when stamping onto boxes.

I loved the way it looked like a page from a colouring book when I had finished my stamping, just sitting there waiting to be coloured in.

I coloured it with fresco paints, using satin glaze to thin them so the detail on the stamping was not blocked by the colours.

It will be great if you could join in with the challenge this fortnight, details can be seen on the blog,  HERE.

All Grungy

The challenge this fortnight at the That's Crafty challenge blog is "All Grungy"

I have used one of the 5" x 7" Greyboard journals for my challenge piece. I went on a Seth Apter class earlier in the year with a friend and we got together recently to practice what we had learnt as we were sure that between us we could remember it all, as I am sure you know what it's like at a class you get home and think "how did I actually do this".

Between us we did a pretty good job of remembering it all and this is my result of the days playing. I have not done the center pages yet because as usual we spent as much time eating, drinking and chatting as we did crafting but I shall be tackling them very soon.

Details of the challenge can be seen on the Blog HERE.

There Must be an Angel

A new challenge starts today at the That's Crafty Challenge Blog. The theme is "There Must be an Angel". I have used the penguin from the KatzelKraft  set to make my own little angel.

My penguin is stamped onto fabric, backed with another piece of fabric and then stitched around, lightly stuffed and then the gap left for turning and stuffing was sewn up.

My wings were made using the Dinky Stencil Wings  and gold paint, then over stamped with the crafty Individuals stamp Medieval Manuscript - CI406. I then stuck them to a piece of curtain Buckrum and cut them out, this gave them strength and flexibility. I stuck them to the back of my angelic penguin.

I added a metal halo, chain for hanging and a small shrink plastic tag, that I shrunk and then stamped the believe word from the Treena Stamp set onto. Finishing it with a metal snowflake charm that I glitzed up with Gold Stickles.
