Stamping onto Glass for PaperArtsy

I have been having a go at journalling on glass for the PaperArtsy blog this evening.
Using stamps by Tracy Scott, these worked well on the glass as the nice open images had lots of space to colour without being too fiddly to do.

Full details can be found on the PaperArtsy Blog.

Leave your past behind

I have done this page to enter into the PaperArtsy challenge of PaperDolls.
The background is an idea I had when trying out things for another page, and it has sat in my journal for a while waiting to be  finished. So here it is with a few bits of collage and a quote.
My dad died last year and I had all his poetry books, amongst them were a lot of Tyler Knott Gregson books this quote is one of his, he has some nice short punchy poems perfect for journal pages.

Details of the PaperArtsy challenge can be seen HERE.

Being Small For PaperArtsy

I am over on the PaperArtsy Blog tonight hoping to inspire you to enter their Paper Dolls Challenge.

Your Paper Dolls can be any type and if you check out the blog there are some great examples over the last few days from their bloggers but also on the opening post where the challenge is introduced and this can be found by clicking HERE.

I have used a Tim Holtz Paper Doll on my blogger post for them and my whole journal page was inspired by a quote on their One Penny - Plate 1 stamp set.
I am also a huge fan of Mandy Chilver's collage skills and last time she stayed with me I made her collage .... a lot so I could get to grips with it, so thank you Mandy your lesson was well appreciated.

Hand made Journal/Memory Book instructions

I make these little memory books/Journals a lot and I get asked for the instructions for them and I usually just email them, but I thought I would put a copy of them up on here.

The one shown is a Paris themed one I did for a Hen-Do weekend, lots of pockets for bits and pieces and clips to hold photos in place and of course lots of space to write in.

These are only very basic instructions, but then it is only a very basic book.

Gelli Star Book

Decorate 5 A4 sized sheets of lightweight card using your Gelli Plate, my card is 210 gsm.
Cut each so you have 10 pieces measuring 5 x 8 inches. Fold your 5 pieces in half so they are approximately A6 sized. Cut two pieces of stronger card to this folded A6 size (these will be your book covers)( 4 x 5 inches) Amazon packaging is ideal. ( I only used 7, but the extra give you choice of prints to use, or to give your book more pages if you wish)
Cut piece of black card to the depth 5 inches and, approx 8 inches long.  Crease at half inch intervals.
Concertina up and glue or tape the back pieces together  to form pointy bits Clamp with bulldog clips until it is dry.
Unfold your paper pieces and glue one of the short ends of each piece to the back of one of each of the folded pieces along your concertinaed “spine”
Fold each page over and glue in place along the front of the same spine piece, leave the top open to form a pocket so only glue to about an inch up the sheet, but glue all the way up the actual spine to hold the page in place. Fold over and press firmly in place. Repeat along the length of the “spine” until you have the amount of pages you want,
Glue the two card covers to the back and front flaps of the book and clamp it all in place for a few minutes to give it all a chance to dry.

Cut one of the remaining pieces of Gelli paper in half. Use this to line the inside of the front and back cover, sandwiching a length of ribbon between the gelli print and card cover to use as a tie to either hold your book shut or open in it’s star shape.

Have fun, Carol x

Back to Black at That's Crafty

Back to Black is the theme on the That's Crafty Challenge Blog this week.
I have a journal page to share.

My project started with a piece of black gessoed card that I had used for mopping up stencils from my Gelli Plate, this gave me a lovely muted background of colours which I cut to size, to fit in my 5 x 7 journal.

I added more detail with a lovely Kim Dellow Stencil from Paperartsy

I then added colour to the stenciled area by keeping the Big stencil in place and layered others over it to add color through. I used a selection of from the Dinky range by That's Crafty for this.

I then replaced the big stencil and used it as a template to add white highlights with a pen to the stenciled area.

I am now horribly stuck as to what to do next, so I am going away to think.......

Two day's later and I am back with my finished page.

I found a lovely collage image and title from a music sheet in my bit box which gave me an idea for a theme.

I stamped the book  ring from the That's crafty Textures stamp set 2 onto text paper and added this to the top right of the page, added some drippy images using the same stamp set and Art Alchemy metallique gold rush paint to stamp with. Over this I used DecoArt crackle glaze mixed with  Dioxazine Purple pushed through the dinky stencil 081.

I used my finger to rub paint over this when dry to highlight the crackle.

I added a bit of black stencilling and stitching and a couple of random bits that I found in my collage box. Finishing it all by rubbing on odd colours of Distress crayons here and there just to give it a bit more of a moody look.

I must admit this was one of those projects that I really did  not like at one stage and it nearly went in the bit torn in half in a huff. But I am glad I persevered with it as I now really like the way it all came together.

Out Numbered at That's crafty

A new challenge started last Friday at That's Crafty.
Life has just got away from me at the moment so I am a little bit late with my blog post for this.

My journal page is a play on the nursery Rhyme "2 Little Dickie Birds" here they are sitting on their stenciled walls looking very  happy with no intention of flying away.

I used the lovely bird set by Katzelkraft on my page and a selection of That's Crafty Stencils.

Details of the challenge can be seen HERE on the That's Crafty Challenge Blog.

Ally Pally

I did a couple of demo's at Ally Pally last weekend for That's Crafty. I demoed the Gelli Plate and the DecoArt  line of Media products and That's Crafty's own range of stencils and Stamps.

I also did a make and take using one of the fabulous tabbed Journals that That's Crafty are bringing out. I love these they will be in two sizes, 5 x 7 and 6 x 6 with two covers and 5 tabbed pages. Here are a couple more photos of the book.

I had an absolutely great time and I cannot thank Laura enough for having me on the That's Crafty stand.

A journal page

A collage page with lots and lots of layers, started with paint, went onto torn up text paper and stencils, then more paint.

Finished with a focal stencil and a collaged image, and then finished some Gelatoes and the lovely Stamps by Tracy Scott from PaperArtsy, as soon as I saw these I knew I had to have them.

Have a great day, Carol xx

PaperArtsy Challenge - Our House

The new challenge has started on the PaperArtsy Blog, The theme is "our house"

I have been working on this page on and off for the last couple of weeks and when I saw that Lauren had used doors on her challenge make I thought I would enter it into the challenge.

I do love to do hidden spots for journalling on my pages, sometimes it's tags hidden in a slot,  but this page has a little door that opens to reveal a secret spot to write in.

I have incorporated lots of paint and stamping for my background, (most is hidden in all the layers) I used a hand carved stamp I made last year after being inspired by Kate Crane. My house collage images are also by Kate Crane and I have used some some hand cut border pieces, finishing the whole page off with some red stenciled dots and some doodles.

Thank you for visiting, Carol xx

PaperArtsy Doodles

I was drawn to the Current PaperArsty challenge of Doodles, partly because the word Doodles always makes me laugh, I don't know why, maybe it's just the way the word kind of ties your tongue up a bit as you say it.

Anyway I came to the blog to have a look after following a link on Facebook and thought I am not really a doodler I can't enter this !! I doodle in fits a spurts and not a page worthy amount, but then I saw the #10 Butterfly Trails by Wanda Hentges and realised this is my type, spasmodic and not to prolific, so I decided to start a page and see if I got it finished in time.

My page has lot of elements; A paint base, collage, Gelato's, stamping using the lovely EKD02 set that I recently came into possession of and of course the doodles (snigger)

Good luck to everyone who enters the challenge.

Enjoy your day, Carol xx

Scribbles and Doodles Art Journal Page

 I used

I cannot believe another week has passed by, a friends husband gave us his thoughts on why time seems to go faster as you get older, and he reckon it is all to do with the dither factor, you dither over things as you get older for 5 minutes whereas before it was just bam you did it, so 12 dithers a day is one hour, over a week its 7 hours and in a month it all adds up to over a day, as he reckoned your brain doesn't register the dither, it just thinks it is doing things in the same time frame as before !! So there you go before you know it it's christmas again.

So Bam it's Wednesday and time for another Stampotique challenge, this week hosted by Arwen. Her theme is scribbles. I have lots of scribbles on my journal page, actual scribbly scribbles and doodled scribbles as my border.

Full details of the Challenge this week, how to enter and the randomly drawn prize of a $30 gift voucher to spend on rubber at Stampotique Originals can been seen HERE.

Enjoy the challenge this week.

I hope you have a lovely day, Carol xx

My Inkognito Heart

I used

I have a journal page to share today using stamps by Invisible Image.

The basic painty base was done with my Gelli Plate.

I stamped my image and quote in black and then embossed them with clear embossing powder as I thought this would keep them nice and dense on the page but also as I wanted to be able to wipe other mediums of them easily.

I stamped the splatter in red and black on my page, I then added lots of other layers over the top of this, drips with spray paints, crackle diamonds with DecoArt Crackle paint coloured with Media paint, (one of my favorite things to do at the moment) and then splatters of gold paint to finish it all off. Wiping any splatters off the heart and image as I went.

I bordered the whole page using the border stamp from the flower set and black ink.

The washi tape is simply to hold my page in where it got so wet it fell out of my book.

The full range of stamps from Visible image can be seen on the website HERE.

Have a good day, Carol xx
