Birdy Up Domino Book

The challenge theme this week on the Stampotique Designers Blog has been chosen by Jane and it is to use shades of Purple, Orange and Yellow. I used spray inks and mixed them all up on the paper and this colour combo on my domino is what happened with them all. I added a bit of gesso before finishing off my little domino book with the images from the Birdy Up Stamp. The words are all from the Tall Word Collage stamp.

Links to the stamps I used.

Altered Dominoes For Happy Daze

This week for Happy Daze I have used the Prima Cling Stamp set Songbird to make a set of Fridge Magnets.

I stamped directly onto the domino using black Stazon ink, when dry I gave it a quick coat of Multi medium and then coloured in the images using Claudine Hellmuth Paints.

I sealed it all with a coat of Glossy Accents, and then added a magnet to the back. These would look equally as cute with a brooch back so you could wear your art.

Thank you for looking

Domino Jewellery for Happy Daze

I wanted to try the Verday paint on some dominoes. I then sealed the images under a layer of resin. before I applied the Verday paint around their sides.

I aged some of the charms from the shop with the paint too, once the patina was dry I gave them a polish and this removed some of the patina gave them a lovely finish.
I added a small bale to the back for hanging.

Altered Art Jewellery with Ten Seconds Studio Verday Paint

For my 2nd piece this month with Ten Seconds Studio Verday Paint I have made some jewellery. You can find Ten Seconds Studio on their website, their blog and their Facebook Page.

What I used

The only difference between the photo and my items used is the shape of the bottle, as I forgot to take this photo before I started and then I broke the other bottle of the same shape I had so I used a different one for the photo, but the bottle is just a basic little bottle like the Tim Holtz ones you can get or other makes that you can buy, just get one the shape you fancy and it will work just as well.

I am very happy with how the bottle turned out as I was not sure how the Verday would work on glass. I found in the end the best way was to coat the bottle with a base coat, I used the Viva Decor base coat in the end. I did experiment with PVA and multi medium but none worked as well.

Remove the cork and find something to fit into the hole so you have something to hold it with. ( I used a pippet as it's quite easy to shove in as far as you want to get a good fit.)  give the bottle a coat of the base and let it dry, it only takes a little while. Cut the hanger off the metal star and glue to the bottle. Now apply the Copper Verday paint to the bottle, I  found that 2 thin coats of the paint worked best, letting it dry between coats. (stick the end of the pippet into a jar and it sits up and drys) Once the 2nd coat is dry, allow at least a couple of hours for it to really set. Now use a sponge apply your choice of colours, I used the Brass. Now while it is still wet spray it with the Patina solution and leave to dry and for the patina to develop.

While this is working go to work on your skull. screw a small eyelet into the top of it and use this to hold it by. I used the Iron as a base on this as I wanted it to look old and as if it had just been dug up from a graveyard. As this was plastic it need the paint to be dabbed on and not brushed, and again this worked well in 2 thinner coats as you could give it 1 coat and then fill in any gaps with the 2nd. Let this dry well like you did for the bottle,. The using the sponge again and the Iron paint dab it onto the surface. Quickly before it starts to dry, add the bronze paint in some places, but not over the whole skull. Spray with the patina and leave for it to develop.

I wanted a very metallic look to the bottle and skull so when they were dry  I gently polished them with a soft cloth.

I added a jewellery finding to the cork to look like a metal bottle lid and then replaced the cork into the bottle add a bit of glue to hold it firmly. I then added jump rings and odd bits of chain to make a finished piece of jewellery.

Altered Domino Necklaces

I have been playing with domino's again lately. I originally got them out again as I received a lovely set of printed domino Images from Crafty Individuals and I loved them so much that I had to use them straight away. I have made necklaces out of the dominoes.

I have covered the imaged with Ice-Resin to protect them and then finished off the edges of the Dominoes with Verday Paint. Everything in my house is getting Verday'd at the moment...umm oh look the cat is sitting still lol.

The images can be found here on the Crafty Individuals Site and the Resin and Verday paints are both available from Happy Daze who just happen to have a 10% off sale that ends on the 20th of August.

I have listed these for sale in my Folksy shop, they come supplied with a metal ball chain.

Altered Domino Fridge Magnet for Happy Daze

I have been experimenting for a magazine article and this is one of the little pieces that I was playing with while trying a few things out.
It's a little Domino Fridge Magnet. I have used new things on it so it does kind of fit in with the challenge theme for this month.,
The stamping is done with Teesha Moore Rubber stamps, I am so pleased that Moira has started to stock these as there was no UK stockist before and I always had to order from the US and they would seem to take ages to come.
I have used the little legs stamp and then masked them off to stamp the swirl for the background. Its coloured in with Alcohol inks and then given a coat of glossy accents which has sealed all the charms in place.
For full details of the challenge this month and how to upload your imaged have a look at the original blog post here.

A Different View

I have used this stamp before on Domino Pendant. But I was asked on my shop for it in a different colour and this is the result. I quite like the way it looks in the cream and black it has a nice vintage look about it, so I thought I would share it as my Bubbly Funk Piece this week. To see all the details of it look Here on the blog.
